Hiking at Loser & cooling off in the Augstsee

Altaussee Loser

The Loser-Panorama-Road

Werbung / Advertisements

The nine kilometer long toll road to the Loser offers a spectacular panorama of the surrounding landscapes and mountains. Parking spaces are available at the 1600m Loser-Alm – but they are rare on beautiful days. From there the well signposted hiking trails begin to the top of the Loser as well as the Hochanger. Snow is often still in the summer, so warm clothing (jacket against the wind) and hard shoes are recommended.

Experience Loser & Hochanger

The circular route is the best alternative to enjoy the Loser Alm. The way leads from the parking lot to the Augstsee up to the Loser window (a view in the form of a stone window). Shortly afterwards you will reache the Hochanger, the first summit which is often used as a starting point for paragliders. After a short descent through a zip line and the subsequent ascent, you get to the top of the Loser. A pen for the summit book, changing clothes (longer stays) as well as a summit snack should not be forgotten. After the descent from the Loser you can decide (a) the same route over the Hochanger, Loserfenster and lake Augst or (b) to direction panoramic road and back to the parking lot.

Other activities & information

  • Don’t forget your swimming trunks and a towel and enjoy a refreshment in the lake Augst. The lake is often even warmer than the lake Altaussee. Crystal clear deep blue water characterize this mountain lake.
  • For climbing enthusiasts, the “Sisi” (“D”) climbing route, very difficult, was built, which is only recommended for experienced persons.
  • The exit ticket (toll) is available at Infopoint (in the valley before the panoramic toll road starts) as well as at the Loserhütte (call before if open, only few parking spaces available).

Direction to the region Altaussee

You will reach the Loser panoramic road when you follow the signs “Loser / Blaa Alm / Salzwelten” approx. 3 km after the exit of Altaussee. From Graz through the Gleinalmtunnel (toll road) just 2,5 hours.

Altaussee for insiders

Tip # 1: Combine this excursion with the Salzwelten Altaussee and be guided deeply into the mountain by mountain studs. Become a miner, experience a unique sound & light show in the mountains and slide over the legendary miners’ slides. The detour is just 1 kilometer.
